Infrastructure

Cumberland County offers prospective developers a wide range of public services and infrastructure. Its three cities, Bridgeton, Millville, and Vineland, are the largest communities between Atlantic City and the Delaware Memorial Bridge offering a complete array of public facilities. These services enhance Cumberland County’s outstanding location in the heart of the southern New Jersey region.

Transportation

Cumberland County is served by an excellent highway network. Route 55 provides four-lane connections to the greater Philadelphia region and points north and south. Connections via New Jersey Route 55 to the New Jersey Turnpike and Interstates 95 and 295 provide easy access to other points up and down the east coast of the United States. New Jersey Routes 49, 47, and 77 also offer excellent access to the Delaware Memorial Bridge, U.S. Routes 40 and 322, and other arteries that link the Atlantic City, Wilmington, and Philadelphia markets.

Rail freight transportation in Cumberland County is also outstanding. Southern New Jersey has competitive rail service to destinations across the United States and Canada via the Norfolk Southern and CSX railroads. Short-line railroads such as the Winchester & Western and Southern Railroad of New Jersey provide connections from various points in the area to the national freight carriers. The Millville Municipal Airport, operated by the Delaware River and Bay Authority, is the second largest airport in New Jersey. Its 6,100-foot runway provides the capacity to land a range of commercial and freight aircraft. While there is no passenger service from this facility, the airport accommodates many corporate jets and cargo planes.

Utilities

Bridgeton, Millville, and Vineland all offer complete water, sewer, and other utilities in a wide range of industrial parks and commercial sites. The utility authorities of Vineland, Millville, and Cumberland County have ample capacity to meet the needs of new industry. Sewerage service extends into some of the outlying townships from the Cumberland County Utilities Authority located in Bridgeton. Upper Deerfield Township, north of Bridgeton, also has its own water utility. Electric service is provided primarily by Atlantic City Electric and in all of Vineland by the Vineland Electric Utility. Gas is provided by the South Jersey Gas Company, which provides lines in and around most of the developed portions of the county.
